Maar je leeftijd is niet de enige factor die een rol speelt. Er zijn nog tal van andere risicofactoren die het ontstaan van voorkamerfibrillatie &#8211; ook wel boezemfibrilleren, atriumfibrillatie of kortweg VKF genoemd &#8211; kunnen be\u00efnvloeden.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Op sommige daarvan heb je weinig vat, op andere kan je wel degelijk invloed hebben. Nu is jezelf een gezonde levensstijl aanmeten sowieso een goed idee. Want laten we eerlijk zijn, niemand zit te wachten op hartfalen of een beroerte. Maar alleen al in Europa lijden meer dan 11 miljoen mensen aan VKF. En elk jaar komen er daar 886.000 bij.<sup>2<\/sup> Dat maakt voorkamerfibrillatie niet alleen \u00e9\u00e9n van de meest voorkomende hartritmestoornissen, deze aandoening is ook verantwoordelijk voor maar liefst 25% van alle beroertes.<\/p>\n<p>Reden genoeg dus om je levensstijl eens grondig onder de loep te nemen. Aan sommige van die risicofactoren kan je niet veel doen. Neem bijvoorbeeld je <strong>leeftijd<\/strong>. Hoe ouder je wordt, hoe meer tekenen van slijtage je hart vertoont.<\/p>\n<p>Of neem <strong>erfelijke aanleg<\/strong>. Uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek blijkt dat erfelijke hartritmestoornissen ontstaan door fouten (mutaties) in de genetische code. Die fouten kunnen een invloed hebben op verschillende soorten eiwitten die instaan voor de normale werking van het hart. Wanneer dat gebeurt, ontstaat er een storing van de elektrische werking van je hart met hartritmestoornissen als gevolg.<\/p>\n<p>Heb je te maken met een <strong>hartklepaandoening<\/strong>, een <strong>aangeboren hartafwijking<\/strong> of hartfalen? Heb je al een <strong>hartaanval of -operatie<\/strong> gehad? Die is nodig om bloed door je lichaam te pompen, zodat al je organen en spieren genoeg zuurstof krijgen. Je bloeddruk is het hoogst wanneer het hart samentrekt (bovendruk of systolische bloeddruk) en zakt terug wanneer je hart ontspant (onderdruk of diastolische bloeddruk). Is je bloeddruk te hoog, dan spreken we van hypertensie. Meestal merk je daar zelf niks van. De klier produceert twee hormonen (T3 en T4) die belangrijk zijn voor een normale groei en ontwikkeling en voor de regeling van heel wat lichaamsprocessen. Het kan gebeuren dat je schildklier te snel werkt en te veel schildklierhormoon aanmaakt. Het is goed mogelijk dat je daar niets van merkt en gewoon verder slaapt, maar net zo goed schrik je verschillende keren per nacht wakker. Daardoor blijft glucose (of suiker) aanwezig in je bloed in plaats van binnen te dringen in de lichaamscellen waar we het gebruiken als energiebron. Is dat het geval bij jou? Dan ben je niet alleen. In 2016 hadden wereldwijd meer dan 1.9 miljard mensen last van overgewicht (BMI tussen 25 en 29,9). En maar liefst 650 miljoen daarvan zijn zwaarlijvig (BMI hoger dan 30).<sup>3<\/sup> Dokters spreken dan ook terecht van een wereldwijd probleem. Want overgewicht houdt in dat je meer kans hebt op hart- en vaatziekten, diabetes en sommige vormen van kanker. Goed idee denk je dan. En inderdaad, een beetje beweging doet wonderen voor de gezondheid van je hart.<sup>4<\/sup> Maar zoals met veel dingen bestaat er iets als teveel. Zo zien we dat VKF vaker voorkomt bij mensen die aan <a style=\"color: #1e8d95;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fibricheck.com\/nl\/factcheck-verhoogt-duursport-het-risico-op-hartritmestoornissen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">duursport<\/a> doen.<sup>5<\/sup> Sport je meer dan drie uur per week intensief?
