Objective
To boost the effect of traditional, industry-sponsored awareness campaigns with technology that empowers Luxembourg residents to play an active role in their own diagnosis.
Approach
As part of Heart Health Month, FibriCheck partnered with the Luxembourg Ministry of Health, the Cardiology Society, the Patient Association and the Pfizer-BMS Alliance to co-develop a nationwide detection programme to raise awareness and improve atrial fibrillation detection rates in the general population. As the digital enabler across online and offline media, FibriCheck engaged both healthcare professionals and the public. The campaign ran in two phases: an awareness phase focused on heart health, lifestyle and prevention, and a screening phase in which the public could use FibriCheck for free for 7 days.
Outcome
Traditional awareness campaigns have two shortcomings. They lack a concrete mechanism to prompt people to seek medical advice, and they lack actionable data to evaluate their own impact. FibriCheck addressed both: it gives people a tangible reason to act on prevention, and it generates data and clear response rates that streamline the process of care. An estimated 12,000 people in Luxembourg have atrial fibrillation, a figure expected to double by 2050. Offering a certified, hardware-free way to detect arrhythmias at population scale shows the potential of digital health to improve outcomes.
