Chelsea and Westminster hospitals launch clinical trial to remotely monitor stroke risk

As part of their CW Innovation programme, the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and its charity CW+ started a clinical trial exploring the use of FibriCheck to detect atrial fibrillation (AF) in people who recently suffered a stroke.

Launched in 2020, the CW Innovation programme aims to identify, test and evaluate new solutions that improve both the patient’s care and experience. As such, FibriCheck was chosen for inclusion in the Trust’s growing remote monitoring portfolio, to enable clinicians to care for patients without them having to come into the hospital.

“We are delighted to be able to trial FibriCheck at the Trust, to monitor stroke patients remotely without the need to come into our hospitals,” says Dr Sadia Khan, consultant cardiologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. “FibriCheck is quick, reliable, and easy to use, and the diagnostics will provide vital information so we can detect AF earlier in people who have had a recent stroke and undertake the next steps in clinical care to reduce the risk of further strokes. I’m confident the app will be a game changer in the way we manage patient care in the Stroke service.”
