What is FibriCheck capable of?
FibriCheck does two things. One is a medical check of your heart rhythm. The other is a set of general health insights. It is important to know the difference.
1. The heart rhythm check (medical)
This is the core of FibriCheck, and it is a certified medical device function. You place your finger on your phone's camera for 60 seconds. The camera reads the pulse in your fingertip. FibriCheck then analyses your heart rhythm and looks for irregularities, such as atrial fibrillation. You get a clear result, and every result comes with a clear next step.
FibriCheck does not give a diagnosis. Only a doctor can do that. Think of FibriCheck as a companion for you and your doctor, not a verdict.
2. Health Insights (non-medical)
Alongside the rhythm check, FibriCheck shows general insights about your heart health, such as your heart age, your heart rate variability, and your resting heart rate over time. These insights help you understand your habits and your progress.

What FibriCheck cannot do
FibriCheck does not replace an ECG ordered by your doctor. It cannot detect a heart attack, and it is not for emergencies. If you feel unwell, contact your doctor or the emergency services right away.
Can I use FibriCheck if I'm taking heart medication?
Yes, you can use FibriCheck even if you are taking heart medication. However, never change your medication or dose based on a FibriCheck result on your own. The app produces a recording and a potential finding, not a diagnosis. Any treatment decision should go through your physician, who interprets the trace in your clinical context.
Does it work if I have a pacemaker?
People with pacemakers or other implanted electronic devices cannot use FibriCheck, as these devices are designed to control the natural heart rhythm.
Do cold fingers, shaky hands, or my skin tone affect the result?
Cold fingers or calluses on your fingers can affect the measurement. If your hands are cold, we recommend rubbing them together to warm them up again.
If you have calluses, we recommend using a different finger.
If you have shaky hands, we recommend placing your hand on a table for more stability. You can also place your smartphone face down on a table and then place your finger on the camera.
FibriCheck is suitable for people of all skin colours.
Does FibriCheck work on any smartphone?
Search for the FibriCheck app in the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. If you cannot find it there, FibriCheck may not be compatible with your device, or the app may not be available in your country.
To be compatible with FibriCheck, a smartphone needs Android 5.0 or iOS 12.0 or higher, and a working camera and flash.
Will my doctor take these reports seriously?
FibriCheck was developed together with doctors, is used by practices and hospitals, and the reports are taken seriously.
