Reducing unnecessary hospital visits pre- and post-cardioversion with FibriCheck

Tergooi MC had the opportunity to participate in a European project from Maastricht University Hospital, where patients could use the FibriCheck app. Cardiologists and nursing specialists were excited to test out the app in a pre- and post-cardioversion setting.

Patients who were diagnosed with AF were asked to start taking measurements with the FibriCheck app approximately 4 weeks before their planned cardioversion. Those who preferred an ECG also had the option to go to the hospital. When FibriCheck didn’t detect AF during the period prior to the scheduled cardioversion procedure, the cardioversion was cancelled. In this case, AF resolved naturally or by taking medication.

In cases where FibriCheck did detect AF, the cardioversion procedure was performed and patients were recommended to keep using FibriCheck for follow-up in the period after their procedure. Patients were able to keep using FibriCheck to follow up on their heart rhythm and heart rate for the remainder of the prescription.

This approach saved costs and time by eliminating unnecessary hospital visits and opting for remote monitoring in stead.
